If the oil leak isn't stopped the mess is going to get worse.
The federal government took charge yesterday to deal with the oil slick in the Gulf that has proved again that we can't trust the oil companies to safely drill off shore -- can't trust them to follow all the safety rules, can't trust them to protect the coast line, wildlife or shore businesses and industries. We just can't trust them. The BP oil leak in the Gulf and the resulting oil slick are an environmental threat that is becoming a severe disaster. Could put a stop to the expansion of offshore drilling? Senator Ben Nelson of Florida introduced a bill in the Senate yesterday that if passed would do just that.
.The Obama Administration's plan to open the East Coast up to more drilling for oil off shore doesn't seem so smart. Anyway, Mr. Obama has mobilized the forces of the United States Government -- a cast thousands including, people, ships and aircraft from the Coast Guard, the US Navy. And inspectors from the US agencies are on the case. The oil spill has been designated a threat to the homeland. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano called it, 'a spill of national significance' which could threaten coastline in several states. She has established command posts in Mobile, Ala., and in Louisiana, to manage potential coastal impact in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida. To check on the other off shore rigs and to make sure that this sloppy safety enforcement isn't some epidemic, "Interior Secretary Ken Salazar ordered an immediate review of the 30 offshore drilling rigs and 47 production platforms operating in the deepwater Gulf, and is sending teams to conduct on-site inspections."
Yeah? Okay. Stay tune.
