In our quest to eliminate disposable items from our home, the things we store our food in soon came under fire. Zippered storage bags, throwaway plastic containers and even things like paper plates have become a thing of the past in our home. Sure, we still have zippered bags for those rare occasions when you really need one, but other options have taken the forefront and a box of those bags will last us many, many years.
Glass Storage
Perhaps the best option for food storage is reusable glass food storage containers. Think Pyrex, or if you are into canning, canning jars. There are many brands on the market now and you can get a big set for a reasonable price.
Plastic Food Storage
By far the most common, I think plastic still has some hurdles to overcome before it becomes my favorite food storage. The tendency to leach chemicals when heated, or absorb odors and dyes from foods, make it less appealing to me than other options.
Metal Food Storage
Expensive and hard to find, metal food storage is not a popular option…yet. It has great potential, especially when you consider just how durable food storage made from metal can be. If I had the funds, I would switch entirely to metal.
You don’t have to settle for throwaway food storage when there are so many inexpensive options available. Take a look at Amazon or your local Walmart, and you will find enough choices to suit every food storage need.
